The Vietnam passport currently provides travel mobility to 48 destinations worldwide through a combination of visa-free access and visa-on-arrival options. According to the latest 2026 passport ranking data, the Vietnamese passport is positioned at rank 83 globally, reflecting an improvement from its 2025 rank of 91. While Vietnamese citizens enjoy an openness score of 42, they do not currently have visa-free access to the Schengen Area. The historical ranking data shows significant growth in travel freedom since 2006, when the visa-free count was only 18. Holders of a Vietnam passport can enter 23 countries visa-free, including regional neighbors like Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia, as well as nations further afield such as Chile and Panama. Additionally, 24 destinations offer a visa-on-arrival, such as the Maldives and Nepal, while several others require an electronic travel authorisation (eTA). For many major economies, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and European Union members, a standard visa is still required. With a global score of 8, the passport ranking continues to be a key indicator for Vietnamese nationals planning international travel and assessing their overall global mobility.
