According to the latest passport ranking data for 2026, the Chinese passport holds the 56th position globally. This is a notable improvement from its 2006 rank of 78, when it provided access to only 18 countries. With a global score of 32 and an openness score of 72, the passport facilitates easier international movement for Chinese nationals across Asia and beyond, though it currently does not grant visa-free access to the Schengen Area. Holders of a China passport can benefit from diverse entry requirements, including visa-free access to countries like Singapore, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, the passport supports visa-on-arrival entry for 30 destinations, such as Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, and electronic travel authorization (eTA) for 5 locations, including Kenya and Sri Lanka. For other major regions, including the United States, United Kingdom, and most of Europe, a standard visa is required.
